Opening Song: The Apostles' Creed

Story: "Jesus Teaches about Anger" | Spark Story Bible, pg. 272

Lesson Video | Forgiveness

Ask: Have you ever had to ask someone to forgive you? How did it feel when they forgave you? ... Did you feel better?

How would you feel if you asked someone to forgive you and they said "NO"? ... Would you feel pretty bad?

What if we asked Jesus to forgive us for the sinful things we do all the time and Jesus said, "NO"? That would be pretty sad.

But Jesus does forgive us, right?

Now, has someone ever asked you for forgiveness? What did you do? Did your forgive them or did you say "NO"?

Say: Jesus wants us to forgive other people because He forgives us, right? It's important to both ask for forgiveness (and mean it!) and to give forgiveness (and mean it!). Because we sin all the time, it's important to ask Jesus to forgive us all the time. We know He has forgiven us and will forgive us and that feels good. So, we share that forgiveness with others too, because it brings love and peace to our world.

Activity Sheets or Play

After the song, hand out the activity sheets. Younger children are welcome to play with the Duplos (encourage them to play out a story that fits with the lesson).

End with the Lord's Prayer when the Usher comes to let you know the prayers have started

(If you need more time)

  • Go around the room and ask the children to share something they are thankful for this week.

  • Ask them if there is anything or anyone they would like to pray for this week.
