For Kids: God's Promise to Abram | Lectionary 10 (Pentecost 2) | Year A

Opening Song: The Apostles' Creed

Note: Today's lesson is based on Romans 4:13-25 in the Lectionary readings.

Big Idea: God keeps His promises

Story: "God's Promise to Abram" | Spark Story Bible, pg. 30

Ask: What does a "pomise" mean to you?

Lesson Video | Abram to Abraham

Ask: Why is it important to keep promises?

If God promised something and didn't keepmHis promise, do you think we could trust Him?

Have you ever made a promise before? ... Did you keep your promise?

Has anyone ever promised you something? ... Did they keep their promise? ... How did that feel?

Say: God has made many promises and He keeps them! One promise we are still waiting for is Jesus' return. Do you think God will keep that promise?

If God keeps His promises, we should too. We should be trustworthy like God is trustworthy. If you don't think you can keep a promise, maybe its better not to make it in the first place. But if you make a promise, it is important to do what you say you will do.

Song for Kids: Abraham, Faithful One

Activity Sheets or Play

After the song, hand out the activity sheets. Younger children are welcome to play with the Duplos (encourage them to play out a story that fits with the lesson).

End with the Lord's Prayer when the Usher comes to let you know the prayers have started.

(If you need more time)

  • Go around the room and ask the children to share something they are thankful for this week.

  • Ask them if there is anything or anyone they would like to pray for this week.

Ending Song: The Lord's Prayer
