For Kids: Jacob and God | Pentecost 19 (Lectionary 29) | Year C

Opening Song: The Apostles' Creed

Big Idea: Jacob holds onto God when he's scared (Genesis 32:22-32)

Story: "Jacob Wrestles" | Spark Story Bible pg. 46

Bible Story Video: Jacob and Esau

Ask: What would you do if you met Jesus? ... What would you do if Jesus started wrestling with you?

Have you ever been scared? Tell me about a time you were scared. What did you do to feel better?

Jacob was scared in our story. What did he do? He stayed by himself and didn't go meet his brother. When Jacob was scared, God came to him and they wrestled.

When Jacob realized he was wrestling God, he held onto God asking God to bless him. In a way, he was asking for God to be with him when he went to meet his brother.

Say: When we're scared, we can hold onto God too. We can pray and ask Him to be with us and to help us. Have you ever done that before? Did it help?
