For Kids: Pentecost 25 (Lectionary 33) | Year A

Opening Song: The Apostles' Creed

Today, we are learning about what to do with the things Jesus gives us.

Story: Parable of the Talents - Spark Story Bible, p. 316

From the Story: Smile at five people today. If they smile back, you now have ten smiles. (When you share your love or joy with others, sometimes, you get love and joy in return)

Lesson Video | Parable of the Faithful Servants and Talents

Ask: If someone gives you a gift, what do you do with it? . . . Have you ever just buried a gift in the ground? Or do you use it?

Say: Jesus gives us many gifts. He gives us time, abilities, and things that we can use to help others.

Have you ever used something you had to help someone else?

When we use what we have to help someone, we are showing Jesus that we are getting ready for Him to come back. He wants to see us use the gifts He's given us in helpful ways - not just keeping them to ourselves or not using them at all.

Remember though, that we are all different and can help people in different ways. The way you help someone might be different than the way someone else helps people.

What are some ways you can help others? . . .

Song for Kids: This Little Light of Mine

Activity Sheets or Play

After the song, hand out the activity sheets. Younger children are welcome to play with the Duplos (encourage them to play out a story that fits with the lesson).

End with the Lord's Prayer when the Usher comes to let you know the prayers have started.

(If you need more time)

  • Go around the room and ask the children to share something they are thankful for this week.

  • Ask them if there is anything or anyone they would like to pray for this week.

Ending Song: The Lord's Prayer
