Lesson Video | Ash Wednesday

Lesson Video | Keep My Heart Pure

Lent is a time of preparation for the celebration of Easter- when we celebrate Jesus rising from the dead, like Advent was a time of preparation for Christmas.

Lent is a time to remember that we need Jesus.

Today...We remember that God loves us SO MUCH. We remember that he is perfect and we are not.

We remember that sometimes we do bad things and need to say sorry to other people and to God. We remember that God’s love is SO BIG he forgives us. We remember that because of his love and kindness, God sends his Holy Spirit to comfort us and help us. We remember that God is with us and we are never alone.

We remember that Jesus gives us life.

So, to remember all these things, we put ashes on our heads. The ashes remind us that we are just humans. One day,

Let's pray together. Repeat after me:

Come, Holy Spirit... As we make space for you... open our ears to hear... Open our mind to understand... Clean our hearts... Help us to know and love you more. Amen.

End with the Lord's Prayer when the Usher comes to let you know the prayers have started

(If you need more time)

  • Go around the room and ask the children to share something they are thankful for this week.

  • Ask them if there is anything or anyone they would like to pray for this week.
