For Kids: Fishing for People | Epiphany 3 | Year B

Opening Song: The Apostles' Creed

Today's lesson comes from the Gospel according to the lectionary, Mark 1:14-20

Today, we are learning about fishing for...people?

Story: The Disciples - Spark Story Bible, p. 258

From the Story: Play follow the leader. Take turns being the leader. What kind of leader do you like to follow?

Lesson Video | Jesus Call Peter

Ask: Have any of you been fishing before? What do you do when you go fishing?

Say: Jesus doesn't want us to actually go fishing for people with fishing poles or nets. What Jesus wants is for us to tell the Good News about Him to everyone! When we tell people the good news, they don't always listen - kind of like when a fish doesn't bite or swim into the net. But when people listen to the Good News, they get to join God's family!

Action for the Kids - Say: Think of someone this week who might like to hear about Jesus. We can tell people about Jesus, but we can also show them His love by helping and being kind!

Song for Kids: Obey, Obey the Lord

Activity Sheets or Play

After the song, hand out the activity sheets. Younger children are welcome to play with the Duplos (encourage them to play out a story that fits with the lesson).

End with the Lord's Prayer when the Usher comes to let you know the prayers have started.

(If you need more time)

  • Go around the room and ask the children to share something they are thankful for this week.

  • Ask them if there is anything or anyone they would like to pray for this week.

Ending Song: The Lord's Prayer
