For Kids: Hard Times | Pentecost 23 (Lectionary 33) | Year C

Opening Song: The Apostles' Creed

Big Idea: God is with us, even when life are hard (Luke 18:9-14)

Story: "God's Love is Forever" - Spark Story Bible, pg. 408

Bible Story Video: Daniel in the Lion's Den

Extra Video: Where's God When I'm Scared? (Daniel and the Lion's Den)

Ask: Have you ever had to do something hard or scary? ... What was it? ... Have people ever been mean to you? ... How did that make you feel? ... Did you know that God is with you all the time? Even when we have to do something hard, are scared, or when people are mean to us?

Say: If we don't feel like God is with us, what do you think we can do to help us remember God is really there with us? We can pray. Does anyone remember what prayer is? It's talking to God - it's a conversation right?

If you were in a dark room with your friend, so you couldn't see them and they never talked, do you think you might forget they were there? But if you said, "Hey, friend! Are you still there?" They might say something back!

While we can't always hear God's voice with our ears, He speaks to us in other ways. Maybe it's through reading the Bible. Maybe it's through other people. Maybe it's through a feeling of peace or comfort.

No matter what though, God is really with us all the time. That's good news, my friends!

Song: Always With Us

Activity Sheets or Play

After the song, hand out the activity sheets. Younger children are welcome to play with the Duplos (encourage them to play out a story that fits with the lesson).

End with the Lord's Prayer when the Usher comes to let you know the prayers have started.
